After at least 35,000 years of Aboriginal occupation and 200 years of European settlement, Wellington Range is a cultural landscape as well as a natural one. The Park is threaded with tracks, shelters and sites of significance. From the journeys of early naturalists to the quest for clean water, the Mountain has been of particular importance. There are stories of farming and forestry, ice houses and Mountain huts, bushrangers and bravery.

For today's locals, the area means different things to different people, but is widely celebrated through activities, art, literature and festivals. Wellington Park is a vital component of the community's identity, strongly forming the local sense of place.
