The protection of drinking water catchments is fundamental to the management of a natural reserve such as Wellington Park. Good catchment management results in the protection of natural values, and the Park is used as a water source for just under 25% of the drinking water for the Greater Hobart area.
In accordance with the then Wellington Park Management Plan 1997, a drinking water catchment management strategy was prepared to protect the quality and quantity of drinking water harvested from the Park.
The strategy was finalised in October 2002, and was prepared by Hobart Water in partnership with the Trust and other community and agency stakeholders. You can read a summary of the strategy, otherwise visit the Hobart Water website for a full version.
