Wellington Park Management Trust

In accordance with the Wellington Park Management Plan 2005, the Trust is intent on pursuing a regional approach to the management of introduced species within the Park. As yet, there is not a formal strategy however a brief has been prepared for the preparation of the strategy. It is hoped the strategy will be finalised in late 2006.

Weed management is currently undertaken by the various on-ground management agencies, particularly in relation to the implementation of the Wellington Park Fire Management Strategy. Weed control is also undertaken by various volunteer groups, and covers various remote sites to prevent new incursions of weed species.

The Trust also has several Envirofund programmes operating in the Park, focusing on protecting natural values through the removal of weeds. Sites include: Lenah Valley Road, Inglewood fire trail, and Goat Hills.

The Trust has also endorsed a Hygiene Protocol to reduce the risk of weed movement within the Park. The protocol assists land managers and contractors to minimise vehicle movement through weed areas, and provides actions to be implemented to control the spread of weeds and other plant pathogens.
