Wellington Park offers a range of bike riding experiences from road riding with altitude, to flat family sojourns or mountain biking on steep technical terrain.

Download the Wellington Park Bike Map (Whole of park or Eastern foothills) to see riding options.

Bicycles are permitted on formed roads and fire trails, and selected walking tracks. These trails allow both bike riders and walkers specified areas to ensure comfort and safety.

Riders should follow the code of conduct to ensure minimal impact mountain biking. A framework for sustainable bike riding in the Park is further detailed in the Wellington Park Bike Strategy 2005.

Riders on un-permitted walking tracks place themselves and others at risk, while also breaching the Wellington Park Regulations. Authorised Officers monitor trail use within the Park and may issue an on-the-spot fine.

North-South shared use trail

The Trust is proud to announce the opening of Stage 1 of the North-South Track, leading from Shoobridge Bend to Junction Cabin. The track will eventually link to the Glenorchy section of Wellington Park.

The North-South Track is a shared use track for mountain bikers and bushwalkers which specifically provides for mountain bike access.

The track was constructed by the Hobart City Council in accordance with the Wellington Park Bike Strategy 2006 and the International Mountain Bicycling Association's guidelines. It features a main trail which provides a challenging ride for experienced cross country riders, whilst optional technical features such as jumps and log rides have also been constructed to challenge more capable (and adventurous!) riders. The track manages shared usage by mountain bikers and walkers through advisory signage at track heads and along the track.

The North-South Track is outstanding in terms of its high quality construction, scenic value and provides adequately for the safety of appropriately skilled riders, and will attract considerable interest from interstate riders and become something of an icon. This is not hard to imagine as you ride the track across the rock scree section, taking in superb views up to the Organ Pipes and down to the city and beyond. The track also features long stretches through the beautiful forests of the Mountain.

Next time you visit the Mountain, make sure you check out this superb new track for yourself and ride your bike for a bit of extra adventure and excitement!
